Using windows 7 means drm issues need to be addressed and considered. Thank
God it handles it better than Vista!
1. The listing of various names for the realtec/soundcard is the way that
the new wdm drivers system handles outputs/inputs. Windows knows that the
regular (analog) outputs for your sound card, the digital output (could be
SPDIF or optical) are all different. So it let's you choose 1 of those.
Digital SPDIF can be different than digital optical. Even if you don't have
an SPDIF port on the computer, the motherboard might have a header for it,
so it'll still show up.

2. You are sharing the windows audio system with the sonar engine (its
audio system), which is problematic. Jaws won't speak to you because sonar
is taking over the audio device while you are recording/playing back, so
when windows tries to access the audio system, it can not, so jaws won't
speak until sonar lets it go. You can try checking the "share audio drivers"
box in the audio>advanced tab, this might or might not work, it could cause
issues in sonar though.

3. When you unplug your monitor (or any audio or visual device for that
matter), windows drm kicks in. It displays a notification about it, makes a
default ding noise, and also switches off digital components on your
graphics card. Sometimes I've seen it reduce the screen resolution to 800,
600. The drm can be switching off audio, or the interruption of the ding
noise as windows tries to play it can be causing you to lose sound.

4. Are you using the right plug on your computer for the headphones? If you
are, plug in the headpohnes before you turn on your computer, then start it
up. Do windows sounds come through the headphones? Also be sure to unplug or
turn off the motu before you turn on the pc. That way windows is forced to
use the default card.
Finally, check the realtec audio controll panel (if your version is
accessible), and make sure that the headphones plug is being used as a
analog/regular output, not as a digital.

HTH, D!J!X!

And what's even more interesting, is that on the Realtek Audio selections,
there's Realtek Digital Output, and Realtek Digital Output Optical. What's
the difference between the two?

I want to have JAWS on the Onboard Sound Chip, but unfortunately as of right
now, I don't have any speakers for that one. I'm hoping to get some this
Thursday. Vos computers has a pair for $10.

I'm not sure power options have anything to do with this.
Do you have Windows and Jaws set to use the onboard sound chip, and
Sonar set to use your Motu? That's definitely how you want to
configure things.
