The first thing you have to do is load a program in Dimension Pro. Consult
CT's documentation to explain how to open DimensionPro's program browser.

Subject: [ddots-l] Soft synths won't sound...
Hey, Guys!
I am a new Sonar, and by extension, CakeTalking user. I have never been
able to get any of the soft synths to work. I haven't written up to now,
because I have wanted to trouble shoot everything possible, so I might be
able to tell you all that I know works for sure. At this point, I will take
any suggestion, in terms of what to check out. Here's what I have so far:
1. Windows XP Home, Pentium Four @ 3 Gigahertz, with 4 Gigs of RAM.
2. Realtek on board sound card for system & Jaws.
3. Edirol UA4FX external U S B sound card & MIDI interface, 1 MIDI in, 1
MIDI out.
4. I can indeed record audio tracks, so the audio portion of my Edirol
sound card works, as well as Sonar/CakeTalking.
5. I can connect a keyboard (Roland D-50 from the old days) to the MIDI
in of the Edirol, and another external synth (Roland Guitar synth) to the
MIDI out of the Edirol, and use the keyboard to fire the Guitar synth. So,
the MIDI ins and outs on the Edirol work... at least, in a MIDI thru
capacity.
6. I used insert plus I, to insert Dimension Pro (full version) and
checked the MIDI source and first synth audio output check boxes, as
instructed by the CakeTalking tutorial.
7. I opened the track properties dialog by pressing P, and set the MIDI
channel to one, as instructed in the tutorial.
8. While there, I chose a bank and patch to audition by playing my
keyboard.
9. I heard nothing, so I did what the tutorial said to do, which was to
press ALT plus Z, to toggle the audio engine on & off. I heard Jaws say,
Audio engine off, then, audio engine on, but still, I heard nothing.
I have been working on this for quite some time, but to no avail. I am
fairly convinced that my sound card & MIDI interface is working just fine,
and it is recognized by Sonar as the "sound card of choice," if you will.
Both solo and mutes are in the off state. The input echo is in the auto
through state. It shows my input as being my Edirol sound card/interface
set to omni. It shows the output as being Dimension Pro. It shows the MIDI
channel as being MIDI 1: DMNS. It also shows my bank & patch selections,
although they appear as numbers only.
Total frustration isn't even the word for it, not because I am upset
with anybody else but me! I am missing something stupid, but don't have a
firm enough handle on what the heck I am doing to know what.
I would appreciate any help you may suggest! Thanks in advance!
Billy
