Hi Bill,
Here's a quick question concerning other programs in respect to running
audio with 2 sound cards.
Can you configure Windows media to run with the high end soundcard instead
of the default sound card?
If so, how would you configure Windows media player to play for example on a
Delta 10 by 10?

Our customer from the U. K., Mike Christer, recently reported an extremely
sluggish performance by CakeTalking when he tried to move from track to
track or column to column. I'm pasting in my recent response to him to his
own post to the MIDI-MAG list from earlier today. I'm very interested to
know if any of you who own an FW 1884 have had a need to reinstall the
plug-in for SONAR from time to time. It seems that the absence of this
plug-in was at the root of the problem although I'm not sure that I
understand why for certain. I'm thinking that JAWS and his second
soundcard, an Audiophile, were fighting over the rights to use the
Audiophile and thus the delay. Obviously, we want to do everything we can
to prevent someone else from going through what Mike has experienced. OK,

As Mike knows, I'm delighted that CakeTalking for SONAR 5 is now performing
as advertised (grin)! He and I had a good conversation earlier today and it
does seem that reinstalling that SONAR plug-in for the TASCAM FW 1884 did
the trick. Have any other 1884 users experienced a situation where they
have had to reinstall that plug-in? What Mike and I are trying to determine
is what can be done to prevent these performance problems from recurring.
If I understand correctly, Mike was also trying to get his work done with
only one soundcard (his Audiophile 2496 PCI) while his 1884 was being
repaired or replaced. That configuration also resulted in sluggish response
from CakeTalking. We definitely recommend that SONAR users use two
soundcards, one dedicated to JAWS speech and the second dedicated to
high-end audio. You specify the high-end card using Options | Audio in
SONAR. You specify the card for JAWS speech in the Windows Control Panel
under Sounds and Audio Devices. Point Windows to your preferred card for
JAWS speech using the dialog under the Audio tab. We recommend that people
check the "Use Only Default Devices" in that dialog to prevent Windows from
attempting to run JAWS speech through your high-end card. You can go to

Hey CT users!
Just to let you know, that my CT5 woes are now a thing of the past!
It would appear that after re-installing the Sonar plug-in, which is an
integral part of the installation of the Tascam FW-1884 software, that I
didn't re-boot my system.
By virtue of not doing this little task, that most software asks you to do,
post installation, it caused CT5 to behave like the proverbial pig!
I realise now, that this is what I should've done, so if any of you FW-1884
guys out there experience the same hell that I did, then beware, if you are
using Cake Talking, that this is the way to go!
Call me dumb for not thinking that I should reboot, but seeing as the
FW-1884 was working fine for the first time in nearly 3 months, I naturally
thought that it must bee a glitch with CT5!
We live and learn...
