Rewire is a protocol system that let's you connect 2 applications
externally. It's like a cable that carries both midi and audio back and
forth between 2 applications. So you can run sonar as the master, and reason
as the slave, and sonar can controll reason. Sends midi to it, and can
receive audio back from it... All through rewire... The technology (when I
used it) was kind of buggy, hopefully they've updated it on the 64bit
platform, it'll be nice.
To use it, you go to insert in sonar, and if there's any available rewire
apps on your system, they'll be in the rewire submenu. If that menu is
unavailable, that means sonar couldn't find any compatible rewire apps. Up
till now, 64 sonar couldn't use rewire, because propellerheads had not
updated rewire to 64bit. They just did, so reason 6 would be the only usable
item. If you have sonar 32bit, then you can use stuff like reason,
hypersonic (though it already has dxi and vsti suppport), Vsampler (same
thing), or another daw like cubase...

BTW, with this update to reason, does it mean Propellerheads perhaps updated
their rx2 library dll's to 64bit as well?

What does rewiring mean? How do you do it?
