[ddots-l] Re: Question regarding extra tracks in a midi files

Sure, but there will only be 16 different instruments. For example:

Say you have 17 tracks. Lets say that each track is assigned a different
midi channel. Well, tracks 1 thru 16 each correspond to channels 1 thru
16.
Track 17 must be on one of these channels, even if it is not assigned to
one, it will likely end up onchannel 1.

Another possibility is that 4 tracks are on channel 1,, all saxes,

4 tracks on channel 2, brass,

4 tracks are on channel 3, strings
And 5 tracks, all drums are on channel10

But, if there really are 17 different instruments, then at least one of
the tracks will have to be assigned to another out port.

Hth,
Js

Subject: [ddots-l] Question regarding extra tracks in a midi files

Hello:

I'm working with general midi files from the net, and
some of them are sequenced using more than 16 tracks.
How do I work with this when the Motif's sequencer
only has 16 tracks? What I mean is, can I play a midi
file that contains more than 16 tracks directly from
the Motif for stage purposes?

Thanks for all help.
