Sonar is a different beast altogether, it requires exclusive controll over
drivers, and in most circumstances, your internal sound card, or any sound
card for that matter won't do. This is why we use what is known as an audio
interfaces. It's kind of like a sound card, in that they're reproducing
sounds for the computer, but it's made for programs like sonar and such
which are on a different ball game than your average media player etc. All
that said, if you download something like asio for all, you can probably use
sonar with your internal card to play back stuff. Fair warning, latency will
be unacceptable for most uses beyond playback of a single track or 2...

Hi no it's played nothing, but my sound card works perfectly with any media
player like Windows or Itunes, so I don't understand why Sonar has taken
against it.

Since you're using your internal sound card, it is possible that sonar has
disabled that driver if it can't use it or take exclusive controll over it,
because windows is using it. Have you been able to play anything else out of
sonar?

internal soundcard

Are all your outputs and such set correctly? Did you use sonar to
rip/import the cd track, or did you rip it first using Winamp, iTunes or
similar media player?

Hi Mike that worked fine, could you also maybe tell me how to play a track I
have imported in Sonar? I inserted the CD and copied the track but when I
hit space nothing plays. The track is a project I started recording in a
college and I want to continue where I left off. It doesn't say anything in
the Cakewalk help for sonar about importing from cd. Thanks from Lori

Try pressing ctrl + F12, then cursor down and press enter on the option to
install the JAWS Sonar surface...

Hi I have tried refreshing the screen in Sonar and it's telling me I don't
have the Jaws surface inabled. If I have caketalking then shouldn't the
jaws be configered anyway without the need for anything else?
