[ddots-l] Re: Omnysphere!!

Greg,
There's a Spectrasonics list on Yahoo Groups. Join that and make your
presence known. I used to belong tot hat list but dropped it because of the
trafic. Might come back some day. There's lots of talk about Omnisphere
and Eric, himself, posts often. so, if you explain that accessibility is
important, you will be heard.
Kevin

Well my computer is a little querky and sometimes I have to hit the space
bar before any sound will come out, especially if a big sound loads up, so
here's what I've found out so far.
Using sonar 7 and cake talking,
when I open sonar,
do alt I and y, for insert soft synth, Find omnysphere in the list and open
it, I'm placed in the window that tells me the program hasn't been scripted
for and there are no presets available till I route my Jaws to PC, and go to
the top of that window, with control home.
Then I arrow down to, Saw square, and click on the left mouse button,
Finally some stuff opens up that I can use, a mess of sounds, and they are
good.\
It's hard to see how it all works just yet, there's a line that says,
Catigory, type author and tamber, and right below that, four alls in a row,
all, all, all, all,
I've been putting my jaws curser on the first all, and clicking on that to
load more sounds, then I arrow down, and use the same key stroke to load one
of those sounds,
wait a bit and after it loads I can play it. I find that
to get one of those sounds to play, with out a lot of distortion, it's best
if I close out of that window with control f4.
Sometimes I have to turn down the volume on my audio track to and that
cseems to help. I'm running two gigs of ram, and I suppose I need four for
this big synth. Some of the sounds are 150 megs and up.
To get a new sound, I then have to go to the output colomn on the midi
track, do control Y, to get back in to that preset or plug in window, Route
the jaws to PC again, and arrow down to something that looks good, and do
the left mouse on it. I find that there are so many sounds and some pages
only load up two or three, my sighted friend, can click on something that
opens another bunch of sounds down the list, but we can't get to it with the
jaws curser. I'll bet HSC could fix that for us with Mister Phil's help.
Well anyway that's what I've learned so far. $450 is a mighty big price to
pay for something with such limmited accessibility far as I'm concerned, but
if HSC could help me get further with it, maybe I'll be glad of the purchase
eventually. I do hope so.
My wife says we should talk to the A D A people about stuff like this, but I
sure don't have the energy or patients for that. I suppose conversations
with the developers would be a more positive way to go,
sorta be nice and pleasantly prod them in to accessible accomadation.
Is anyone having a conversation with the spectrosonics people about this
synth? I've left a phone message, but not sure how soon I'll hear back. I
got the impression they wanted to deal mostly on line, but we'll see I
guess. I'd just like for someone who knows more than I do about jaws and
computers to chat with these folks.
If they call me back, and one of you would like to talk with them about how
they could make there instrument more accessible for us, right me off list
with your nnumber and I'll try to get you hooked up with them.
Thanks folks for reading this long post. Think I'll go down there, and see
what else I can find out about this bunch of fun sounds.
