OT dumb questionFWIW! I don't personally see any point up sampling to 48K as
you have to resample down to 44.1 later on. I am also not convinced that Sonar
is that good at resampling though, I could be wrong there. If I ever have
worked it higher sample rates then, I always do the sample conversion in Sound
Forge. I think the less processing you have to do on a file, the better. Now,
24 bit well, that's another story. You can instantly hear the difference when
moving to 24 bit, and Sonar has a good dither for moving from 24 bit to 16.
Personally I think it's a complete waste of time going to higher sample rates,
unless, your using some kind of keyboard digital interface that will only
except 48 into Sonar. Even then, it could be argued that you may get a warmer
sound from your keyboard by not using it's digital interface, and taking the
keyboard sounds in on analogue inputs. I do 24 bit, 44.1 here. I have
considered recording at 24 96 however, as I would lose some of my ADAT
channels, and because the overhead for recording at 96 would be huge, I haven't
bothered with this ether. Most industry people that I know are shooting for 24
bit, 44.1, as you don't have to resample later, rather than 24 bit, 48.
