[ddots-l] OT(?): PC cooling and recording question.

Hi all. I'm wondering about a couple of things, well just one really. Let me describe my situation.

My PC is in a plastic case with foam insolation to keep it quieter. Right now it's just using whatever fans are in it. It's in one of those desks that holds a tower with the shelf overtop with the monitor on it. The desk is against the wall, not really a lot of room to move it. The computer and the microphones for recording are in the same room, this is a room in an apartment so I can't really go changing things that much.

All of that having been said, my fans used to be pretty quiet but now one of them's churning away. I'm sure it just needs to be replaced which I'll do, but then I thought to ask here first. What does anybody use for quiet and efficient cooling, where you're doing everything in the same room? I'll be doing some midi but a lot more live recording with quieter instruments. In case the weather matters, I'm in Wisconsin, so summers can get fairly hot and higher humidity. I keep debating water cooling but I don't know much about it, particularly using it as a blind person. But if anybody has specific ideas, I'd love to hear them. Fanless power supply? Specific fans that are quiet enough to work in this situation? Do you use water cooling and have stories to tell about it? Do the fans even matter, can I get good clean recordings with mic placement and proper input levels?

Basically I'm looking for something I can mostly ignore. I've heard from some people that water cooling, for instance, is a real pain to maintain, and from others that it's really easy and no more trouble than typical fan setups. Obviously if I can get away with getting my current fans replaced I'll do that, but since it's come up and I've always wondered about it, I'm open to ideas about the situation. I'm sure some of you have encountered this situation before and have great tips.
