Hi,
I think a external drive about 7200 RPM's is the way to go.
I use a Western, and had no problems with my laptop even at 512 megs of
memory.
I would have to agree with everyone on this subject, and feel that it's a
good topic to cover.

Sony alwyas partitions their drives on their laptops. This is not what you
would want to do for a Daw, however since the head of the drive has to work
that much harder going back and forth. The recovery disk that they give you
will only restore the computer to it's original factory state. Since you
have an oem version of windows that comes as part of the full installation,
you would probably need to install another copy of windows. That all being
said, I had a lot of success recording as many as 16 tracks on a sony with
only 512mb of ram and a 5400 rpm drive. Make sure you are actually
recording your audio on the D drive.
