Can anyone give advice which it is felt best to buy and which soundcard or
external audio interface would be a good upgrade. Funds are limited but I feel
it is important to spend the bulk of the money on a good computer spec.

Phil replied: go with the Intel. Intel processors seem to bee a bit faster
than AMD machines at the moment. With regard to the sound card, how much money
do you have to spend on that?

  Subject: [ddots-l] New Computer

  Hi All

My current PC is showing signs of going to the great networker in the sky, so
I have been looking around at what to buy next taking into account the things I
now want to do with my PC in addition to internet, word processing etc.

I use Sonar 6.2 with Cake Talking 6.2 and Jaws 7.10. Jaws uses an external
Apollo II synthesizer connected through the serial port and I use a
SoundBlaster Audigy II soundcard with the breakout box for all audio
connections (including Midi). I have been looking at two computers which have
similar specs but have the following processors:

  1. AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+

  2. Intel Core 2 Duo E4500

Can anyone give advice which it is felt best to buy and which soundcard or
external audio interface would be a good upgrade. Funds are limited but I feel
it is important to spend the bulk of the money on a good computer spec.

Best regards and thanks to all those who helped find instrument definition
files for my Roland Juno G and Tyros II

  John Britten
