Hey Cameron,
I have the same issue as you with JAWS and the sound drivers locking up and
screeching. I also am using a very similar configuration as you with the I7
and etc. Just for interest, what is your motherboard and are you using a
Seagate 1 terabyte drive? I have spoken with Seagate tech support about some
SATA issues that have been known to cause this issue, but I strongly believe it
is being cause by JAWS. The reason I say this, is because before reinstalling
JAWS, I don't have the problem. Once JAWS goes in, VOILA it's back. I'm still
trying to track down the problem specifically, so any info would greatly help
the case with Freedom sinus infection. OOPS, there goes that silly spell
checker again that got me in trouble before. OH-WELL, I can't help it if it is
prophetic!

Hi Phil. actually after two more restarts, the run time error stopped and
everything seems okay now.
The machine is an ADK rack mount quad core machine, I7 processor, 3gb ram,
4hds, etc. I do use it for net and office work too right now as I only have
one computer at present. But, I do have the latest version of avast anti virus
4 home edition, from time to time I run NoAdware, and I use reg scrub xp from
time to time to sort registry issues.
Interface is Motu 896MK3.
The operating system is Win xp pro sp3 with all the latest updates
installed...
The machine itself is really solid. I was just making the comment that
windows is the weakest link in the chain when comparing it to Mac OS X.
One odd thing though is that once in a while when I am playing back audio,
whether it be in winamp, vlc, or in a sonar session, all of the sudden, audio
playback will stop, jaws stops, you get this really high pitch sort of screechy
white noise through the monitors connected to the motu, the computer will
freeze and you need to manually turn the machine off. that appears to be the
only thing that works to stop it. This could be more of a motu driver issue
perhaps? It doesn't happen every day or anything and it didn't appear to
happen when they installed and tested everything. I guess I should call them
back again about it.

they are vary good at troubleshooting these kinds of issues and would
definitely want to know about crashes like this.

Phil replied: I wouldn't count on it. I am sure that accessibility or not,
Pro Tools will still crash out on the Mac, smile. Also, you couldn't do as
much on your 12 year old Mac so that's hardly a fair comparison, grin.

Professional corporate here. talking of which, who built your DAW? Which
version of Windows do you have installed? Is your PC partitioned? Is it an
exclusively DAW machine or, do you have other applications on the same
partition such as Office etc and are you running all of the latest fixes from
Microsoft for your version of Windows?
