You have to do that every time, they're automatically activated for our sighted brothers & sisters...

Did you try just unarming said track, then pressing F2?

OK, here's what I did.

1. Opened Sonar, armed an audio track, turned on input monitoring, hit ctrl-f2 twice quickly. Is there a way to make that permanent or do I need to do that every time?

2. Made noise, max input was -4.1

3. Recorded said noise, stopped. Unarmed track. Played track, no output meters. Had to hit ctrl-f2 twice to display peak meters again. After that, it gave me the output signal.

4. Said max output signal was -8.6. What?

My lack of cybernetic bits notwithstanding, I played the instrument pretty much the same way I did when I was monitoring the input, in fact if anything, I played it louder while actually recording. At least I have the meters working right so I can get values from them, thanks for that. Now, on to actually setting up the microphone properly and playing with them that way.
