From what I think I remember reading on MIDIMag, rubbish Windows 7 drivers plus, an inaccessible control panel. If youhappen to post on that list, ask Chris Bell as he sent his back. Maybe TimBurgess or, Bryan Smart may chime in on this. I have looked around on the net a little bit, and haven't found a lot of reliable commentary one way or the other. I would have thought that DD would have said something when I ordered the Daw, because they wanted to know what interface I was using. Also, still think personally that in general Firewire is a betteroption than USB. Although saying that, I think Tim Burgess has a MOTU USBproduct. He also has the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 which, is Firewire. The fact that you can go USBor firewire was vary attractive to me. I wouldn't have to have a firewirecard on my laptop. I like being able to take my laptop on the road with me for recording gigs, song ideas, and doing edits for mixes... The last interface I bought was the M-Audio ProFire 610. Its about $200 or so less than the Motu. I have owned this ProFire, a Presonus FireBox, a Motu 828 Mk2 and the M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I have bought and returned a few of the Lexicon products. For my experience, I was most happy with the Motu 828 MK2. Regardless ofwhat Presonas tells you, I found the pre-amps on the FireBox to be junk, Inever had any problems with audio playback or recording though, even when the track and plugin count was quite high. The M-Audio ProFire 610 has pretty good pre's, but she will start stuttering quickly under a heavy load. Some of my tunes have as many as 54 tracks, and man this thing gets boggeddown, no matter what you do... At least this is the case in Windows XP service pack 3. Maybe it will be better in Windows 7? I thought all and all the Motu was the most stable device, and was the best bang for the buck for sound and performance, but this has been a while... I probably shouldn't run the M-Audio ProFire down so bad, maybe my computer is just living in its last days. I ordered a Daw from Dancing Dots around the first of October, and was hoping to have it by now, but who knows when that will ever see the light of day... Hopefully by the end of the month I may have it. By then my need will be a lot less, I'll have mixed my record, glitching playback and all... Even when it finely does come, I may have trouble with the ProFire and Windows 7. If that's the case, I will go for the Motu Ultra-Light or one of the Focusrite products, being that these guys rave about them so much... All I can say is, I never had day 1 of trouble out of my Motu, perhaps things are different now though. It seems nothing is what it used to be... A number of us are using Focusrite devices on firewire and I have heard 0 issues with these devices. If there are anythen, I would certainly like to know as I recommend them to clients. Youwill need to be a lot more specific than that E.G, post URL's so that we can all read about it.
