Well, this is a situation where we need to demonstrate it to Freedom Scientific. If Jaws is seriously degrading system performance to that degree, it is not accessible.

You don't even have to unload Jaws to alleviate the problem!
If you do a pass true, Insert 3, the audio runs very quickly.
Even if you load a version of Jaws that have no sonar scripts, everything is fine. So, perhaps the problem lies somewhere within the scripts or the control surface. I'm working on this as this problem is impairing my ability to do any serious work. I deal with very large projects most of the time with 40 to 60 stereo tracks and upwards of 30 plug-ins/effects. The sluggishness prevents me to do any meaningfull automation and real time effect parameters tweeking. These scripts work fine if you have only a few tracks and/or plug-ins and that is probably the case with most users! Before you ask me, my DAW is an Intel Core 2 Duo, 6600 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 2 GIG of DDR 2 Ram and 2 SATA 7200 hard drives.
It can really crunch numbers!!!

Well, I do have to agree that there are times when I have noticed that Sonar will start getting glitchy and unloading jaws stops the problem. I think we need to investigate this further. It may ave something to do with jaws and
the osm (off screen model) having to constantly update itself. I should
probably try this with a demo of window eyes to see if we have the same
problem.

But Gordon,
I'm not running Sonar 6 with Jaws 6.2.
I'm running it with Jaws 7.0 with the CT scripts and Jaws 7.1 with J Sonar.

The problem was with Jaws 6.2 and any version of Sonar. I haven't tried
running Sonar without scripts at all. I'll have to see.

Hey Gordon!
I'm a bit confused with your answer but I realize that it's my own fault
as
there was a typo in my post.
It should have read "Jaws 6.2" instead of Sonar 6.2!!!
But your answer is nevertheless very interesting indeed.
I thought I had resolved the sluggishness issue in Sonar 6.2 by removing
the
X-Ray option but to my great surprise, the very next morning the problem
came back almost as bad.
It's hard to believe that the problem is with Sonar because when I run it
without Jaws everything is perfect.
Even running with Jaws without CT or J Sonar is perfect.
Is this memory leakeage affecting only those of us using scripts?
To me, there seem to be nothing wrong with Sonar 6.2 if you run it without
scripts, CT or J Sonar!
If my diagnostic is wright, do you think that Twelve tones and maybe
Dancing
Dots will give us an upgrade free?<grin>.
Thanks for taking this up for me.

Jean:
Well, of course you should be entitled to use what you want, but I will
tell
you this, and this is right from the horse's mouth (fs). There were
memory
leak issues with jaws 6.2 that did degrade performance with Sonar over
time.
These were resolved in version 7. I don't want you to think I'm just
telling you this to pass the buck, but it is a reality. But I will see
if
I
can get to the bottom of this for you.

Can you check on this?
I'd still like to use Jaws 6.2 with CT 5.

Well, I have a theory about this. I did have jaws 6.2 on my system as
well
as 7 7.1 and 8. I am wondering if the installer can only see three
versions
of jaws at once.

Hey Gord!
That's pretty much what I'm doing now.
It's not really a big deal as I am using sonar 6.2 for J Sonar 5.
But, I'm still puzzled as to why I can't reinstall CT 5 in Jaws 6.2
because
that's where it was before I unstalled it?
Surely at some point the installer could see Jaws 6.2 and it doesn't no
more.
Go figure?

Jean:
If you have three versions of jaws on your system, why not use one for
ct6,
one for jSonar, and the other for ct5? You could run ct5 under jaws 7
for
example.

Hey George!
Sorry about the confusion but all I want to do is to be able to install
the
CT 5.3 scripts on Jaws 6.2 as they were before I unstalled them.
I have Sonar 6 installed with the appropriate scripts but am not
willing
to
work with it for now. I'm only experimenting with sonar 6 for the time
being!
And, my jaws 8,7.1 and 7.0 are all taken by Sonar 6 and the scripts,
both
CT
and J Sonar.

Hi Jean,

(Your message only got through because I manually approved
it - and then changed the format to plain text to remove the
graphics)

I'm getting a bit confused here.

What version of CakeTalking for Sonar do you actually want
to run?

If you already have the latest Sonar 6.#, I would suggest
you stay with that, CakeTalking for Sonar 6.#, and JAWS 8.#.

It is much easier to support the newest versions.

George.

Hey George!
OK for the graphics, but this one seems to have gotten thru?
I need to install CT 3 5.2 or 5.3 on Jaws 6.2 because I'm
already using Jaws 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0 for Sonar 6 with CT 6
and J Sonar 6.
At the moment, I'm using CT 5.3 with Jaws 8.0 but I want to
free it up for Sonar 6.2.
When I installed Jaws 8 on my machine, I uninstalled CT 5.3
from Jaws 6.2 to put it on Jaws 8 and since then, I am no
longer able to reinstall it to Jaws 6.2!
It worked really well with Jaws 6.2 and I guess I should
have let it alone.<grin>!!!
So, that's the deal!

Hi Jean,

I suspect the reason you didn't get an answer before was
that your message was rejected due to the list message size
limitation of 20k. Your graphics alone come to 27k.

I know you should technically be able to have JAWS 6.2
running, but 7.0 or 7.1 is recommended by Dancing Dots. (See
http://www.dancingdots.com/support/supportcaketalking5.htm
for details)

Can you also check the version of CakeTalking? You should
have 5.2.

George.

Hello Everyone!
I have asked this question before but have never got an
answer!
I need to install CT 5.3 on Jaws 6.2 but the install doesn't
show it in the list box.
Only Jaws 8, 7.1 and 7.0 appear.
I have repaired Jaws 6.2 but it still doesnt show.
I really need to do this and would appreciate support on
this matter.
Best regards,
Jean
