Need to uninstall Sonar 5Tom, Mike,
Those are great bits of advice. I've always wanted to apply the slide to my
guitar playing and am just getting up the nerve to try it again. They are also
making really cool half-neck capos that will bring 2 or 3 or 4 strings up and
leave the others alone.

Hey Mike, I've played a little slide and a couple of things that I learned
were:
Keep the fingers that are adjacent to the slide bar press up against the
sides of the slide. Makes it easier to move theslide straight across the neck
and gives it a more solid sound.
Also the guitar you use should have the action a bit higher than usual so
that you avoid that scraping of the slide on the frets.
Open e is one of the easiest tunnings I found to get around. You can use
your free fingers to play the bass shuffle notes on the bottom 2 strings.
That's all I have, just keep working at it. You'll begin to hear old time
bottle neck players riffs as you get into it.
For example; play the top 2 strings at the twelfth fret and play the bass
notes after, in a shuffle beat.
Good luck Tom

Hey guys!
I've very recently attempted to learn/play the Slide/Bottle Neck guitar...
I'm finding it very difficult in the dark, so to speak, and I was wondering
if any of you player's out there had any advice/pointers?
I realise that my ears are the main part of the answer, but its not as
straightforward as just trying to stay on pitch...
I remember trying it when I was fully sighted, and it was difficult, even
with the obvious visual references.
I know some guys use dropped tunings, some of which are apparent, but I
really need some good starters for 10!
Looking forward to any ideas...
Cheers
Laters
Mike
