How are you hooking your mike up to your PC? Are you using a concel or, pre-amp?

I found it. it said ultra DMA mode 5 and the other one said ultra DMA 2. I also readjusted my latency buffer and that helped a great deal. Before I was adjusting my IO buffer. Now it doesn't skip at all, but it still drops out sometimes. I don't know yet for sure but I may have gotten it to a point where I can work with it. However in the process of messing with it, I must have messed something else up. Now the signal is going into my mike much to hot and is distorting terribly. I've spent the last hour and a half trying to figger out why, but the answer eludes me.

If you tab over then, it will tell you what each IDE channel is set to. If it is working in DMA mode then, it will say something like "ultra DMA Mode" and then a number such as 2.

I checked it out and it was set to DMA if available. This may be a stupid question, but how would I find out if DMA is available.

DMA is a much faster setting than PIO and is required when running audio on hard drives. You can alter the PIO DMA setting in control panel, system then, go to the device manager and find the IDE channels in there and make sure that all of them are running in DMA mode.

I just defragged my D drive which contains my sonar audio folder. Unfortunately it's still not working. Wen I record I still get the dropout and that message about my disk being full. I want to let you guys know that I really appreciate all your help and suggestions.

No, it isn't. Go to Windows Explorer. Choose the letter of the drive your audio files are on. Press alt-enter for properties. Press control-tab once. First run check disk. Then defrag your drive.

No I can't say I have done that. So I guess that cleaning my audio folder is not the same as defragging it?
thanks much

Have you defragged your audio drive?

Well I tried to do the lead vocal again today. unfortunately I'm having the same problem. My audio is skipping and when I try to record I get a dropout and a message saying that Sonar can't save my recording and that my disk may be full. I know my disk isn't full. As I said before, most of my projects are on an external hard drive and I just cleaned my audio folder on Friday. Before my audio was skipping on the down beet of every 2 bars or so, it's still doing that but now it's also skipping randomly and dropping out randomly as well. Does any one have any suggestions?
