Sharon:
What kind of Roland keyboard do you have? You'll need to find out how to
set it to "midi local off" mode so that you won't hear sound out of it
unless you are on a midi track that is assigned to it in Sonar. You'll also
need to make sure you know how to put it into a "multi timbral" (sometimes
just called performance or multi) mode so that you can assign different
instruments or sounds to different midi channels in your sonar projects.
Orion is not accessible for us.

Subject: [ddots-l] Hardware Question
Hi!
I'd like to get going on making midi files with my Roland keyboard, and
then
do what it takes to make my own music CD's. I know that I need big
speakers, a mixer and possibly cables, but I want to make sure I have
everything else I need. I have installed Jaws 6.1, installed Sonar 4.0.1
Producer Edition,
downloaded the 4.0.2 update, and installed Cake Talking 4. Here is a
description of what my brother-in-law put on my computer:
We've left things pritty blank, aside from installing a few programs that
came with your AudioPhile soundcard. I also installed Orion Platinum on
the
computer, incase you had any use for it. It's like the programs you have,
but it's less professional, and intended for making electronica and that
kind of music.
If you don't have them already, you'll need midi-cables so you can hook
your
keyboard to your computer. The little cable that came with the computer
(with the midi inputs on it) came with the soundcard. It plugs into the
back, next to your wave and S/PDIF plugs. The wave plugs are the ones you
want to hook your speakers into. They are closest to the serial port where
the midi adapter (the one that came with the card) goes.
Sharon - Here's a brief on what this computer is made up of:
Motherboard - ASUS A7V600
CPU - AMD 2800/333 Athlon Barton
Memory - 2 x 512 mb ( Total 1 gb) DDR PC3200 Memory Modules
Hard Drive - Maxtor 160 gb
Sound Card - M-Audio Audiophile 2496
Floppy Drive - Samsung 1.44 mb
Mouse - Logitech Optical
Keyboard - Genius KB-21e
Operating System - Windows XP Professional
I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks!
Sharon
