[ddots-l] Re: Groove Agent pricing

Thanks alot for the information. Right now I'm just using the drums in the ederal and in the cakewalk TTS1. They sound very generic. So, anything will be better than what I have. I've still been able to make it work for me, but I'm ready to go to the next levil.

Hello,

The price for Groove Agent at your Internet Discount Music store is around $199, the regular price is $299. but I've seen it on Ebay for around $150?

but before you take my excitement and run off and buy this package.

Let me say that on one Discount Internet store, the four people that bought this package were not happy with it. their combined rating for this Virtual Drum system was a lowly 4.5! This has to be one of the lowest ratings for any product I have ever read.

Not sure as to why they rated it so low, and I could not find the Reviews of any of these four people.

The other night, while I stated I was still in my Honeymoon period and still had much more to learn about Groove Agent, I have noticed a couple of things which I might find to be a huge short coming.

Everything I shared before is true, a user can play a ton of different styles and have good control over the complexity of each pattern. If you want lots of busyness you can dial it up. If you want a very simple non busy pattern, that too the user can dial up.
the user can mix and match any instrument into any pattern or kit. And each drum or symbol can be tweeked to alter its sound.

What I am Starting to wonder is whether or not I can create and save patterns which I can plug into my Drum track later. A simple example would be a drum stick tapping the rim of the Snare drum for a four beat count in. Something you might use at the very beginning of the track.

Again, I am just learning this software, and it might be able to do this, as I have had other responsibilities and could not spend several hours figuring this system out.

Have you ever bought something, assuming it would do something only to find out it did not? I may be guilty of assuming Groove Agent would let me build patterns, then plug them in much like Loops are used. I build a measure or two of a pattern, then copy it as many times as I need. Cutting and Pasting patterns until I have my Drum track constructed.

I am sincerely hoping that Groove Agent allows this to be done and that how it is done is so obvious that it is right in front of me and I am just too dence to see it.

However, the only thing I see is that the user of Groove agent has to Play Groove Agent much like an instrument.

On the Fly, while Sonar is Recording, I need to pick those patterns as I need them. I need to click a Fill button when I need a Fill. I need to click another button to change the pattern to another when I need a change for the Bridge, etc.
And yes, you can use the Midi Controller instead of the Mouse to pick these patterns on the fly by pressing the proper key.

The other thing bothering me is the sounds of the samples themselves. While all of the samples sound Good and will work, I can not get a Sharp Drum Strike on anything. And I mean a very Sharp strike. Now you can adjust many things, attack, decay, and a number of other things I still have yet to understand what they do. I can even tune the drums which is one of the things I wanted to do.

Someone else may not hear this in the Groove Agent samples. But every song I have heard Groove agent used, the drums seem good, they sound good, and will pass, but they tend to be just a little bit mellow. If the song your building is a mellow one then no problem. However, if your wanting something expressive, on the extreme side, then Groove Agent might not deliver what your needing.

There is a Free Demo of Groove Agent on the Steinberg web site. Run a search for Groove Agent and go to the Steinberg web site and download it. It only has two drum kits, but it will give you an idea of what Groove agent can do for you.
There are also quite a few songs other Groove Agent users had done for the rest of us to hear what Groove agent can do.
they too are on the Steinberg site.

I encourage those of you with an interest in this product to give the Demo a try as the more of us that are experimenting the better picture all of us can have of what this program is capable of performing.

Plus I would hate to tempt any of you into spending 2 hundred bucks for something that does not work.
If I find answers to my questions, I will share them here so the rest of you can be encouraged or warned.

Cheers!

P.S. Hey, I'm still encouraged about Groove Agent, and while I have at least one serious question, and several smaller ones, I am still liking the program. Now if it turns out that I really do have to Play Groove Agent on the Fly, while recording, I will be disappointed.

Call me optimistic, but I can not believe that the creators of Groove agent would put in so much work only to have it come up short in such an important feature.

Stay Tuned
