[ddots-l] Gating a main bus?

Guys, is there such a thing as putting a gate on the main bus of a project?

 

   I am trying to get that pumping sound where the kick and the bass are all
hitting the floor, like in a reggae (I am doing it on a kompa here), and for
some reason I thought if I slightly gate the main bus this will achieve
that. Any ideas please?
