You can continue to use SONAR 8.3 with the 8.0.29 build of CakeTalking if
you like. In fact, though, we never did claim support for SONAR 8.3. On
our CakeTalking for SONAR 8 support page, we wrote:

CakeTalking 8 for SONAR 8 requires that you run SONAR 8. SONAR 8.0.2 is a
no-cost update for registered SONAR 8 customers. Note well that CakeTalking
for SONAR 8 is not yet compatible with the recent SONAR update 8.03. To
download the SONAR 8.02 patch, the following link will bring you to
Cakewalk's support web page where you should find a link to this patch. If
you already have SONAR 8.0.2 installed, bypass the following link and see
information below.

We have no control over the release of patches that Cakewalk issues from
time to time. It would have been better if David had put some code in his
scripts to advise customers that 8.3 had not been fully tested and is not
yet officially supported.

We do know that CT 8.0.29 kind of works with SONAR 8.3 but we also know of
some accessibility problems that were never resolved. Perhaps those
particular problems do not impact you.

Yes, we are charging something for customers to upgrade to the CT 8.5
scripts that run under SONAR 8.5 as well as 8.3. The long list of
additional access to SONAR features such as V Vocal as well as the
significant revisions and additions to CakeTalking's tutorial documents
entailed 8 months of work. We believe that these additional features and
tutorial improvements have value just as the work that the developers at
cakewalk have done to create their new 8.5 release has value.

I am sorry if you think that this value proposition is unfair. But remember
that you will get these same new features when you upgrade to SONAR 8.5 and
more besides. Certainly it's your decision to upgrade or not to upgrade. I
am not sure what you mean by "working properly" but it sounds as though you
have been using CakeTalking with SONAR 8.3 and getting value from it warts
and all. If you would like to talk it over, please call me at 610-783-6692
option 1 or write me off-list at info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and tell me when I can
call you.

Regards,
Bill

Wait a minit...

Duz this mean that for those of us using Sonar 8.3.1 with CT 8.2, that we've
gotta pay for yet another upgrade in order to use Sonar 8.3.1 properly?

This can't be fair...

Surely we shouldn't have to pay for a functioning version of CT for Sonar
8.3.1 when we've been waiting ages for CT to work properly with the version
of Sonar prior to the recent 8.5 update?
