Hi folks. Just passing this on, for anybody using this program, or for anybody who needs a program to slow down music files for learning/practicing.

Transcribe! version 7.30 is now available for Windows
NT/2000/XP, Mac OS-X 10.3.4 or later, and Linux x86.

You can find more information, and download it, at
www.seventhstring.com
Please let me know any problems.

It will recognise your existing version 7 license key (if
you have one) which you shouldn't need to enter again.

***** Changes *****

- Footpedal support (non MIDI)
In addition to the MIDI pedal support we have always had on
Windows and Mac, we now support various of the special-
purpose transcribing pedals normally used for speech.
This means there is for the first time a pedal option for Linux.
See the Help for details, and the "Pedals" page on the website.

- Mac & Linux: new Help viewer.
The Help viewer on Mac & Linux is now a separate application,
distributed with Transcribe!. When you click a Help button in
Transcribe! the viewer is launched automatically and you can
keep the Help open while continuing to use Transcribe!,
which you couldn't do before.
(the Windows version has always worked this way).

- Mac: unicode support.
The Mac version now supports the full range of international
characters. (the Windows version always has, while the Linux
version still does not for the time being).

- "Misc" Fx page: Loops.
There is now a "Location" column, showing a sort of thumbnail
view of the whole track, with the location of the loop indicated.

- "Misc" Fx page: "Move" buttons.
If you hold down the <shift> key then the button will increase
the selection at the relevant end. And if you hold down both <shift>
and <control> (<command> on Mac) keys then the button will
decrease the selection at the relevant end.
This feature was always present but I forgot to document it!
It's now in the Help.

- Preference for fixed vertical scaling of spectrum.
Normally the spectrum display is scaled so the largest peak fills
the available space. But there is now a Preference where you
can specify fixed vertical scaling. This is useful for comparing
spectra with one another.

- Making selections by dragging with mouse (1)
alt-click & alt-drag in waveform profile and in navigation bar
now snap-to-marker if within 25 pixels.

- Making selections by dragging with mouse (2)
We've gone back to the version 6 behaviour where right-
click extends an existing selection (instead of bringing up
a context menu). The thing is, the context menu you used
to get here was exactly the same one you can still get by
right-clicking the marker zone just above the waveform,
so the new right-click seems more useful.

- Preferences - Toolbar.
New Preferences page where you can say what buttons you
want on the Toolbar.

- New Toolbar buttons.
7 new preset-speed toolbar buttons.
By default 25%, 50% and 100% appear on Toolbar.
Also buttons to go to start and end of track.

- New Sound File format: DSS (Olympus). Windows only.
Note you must have Olympus' DSS Player Pro software installed
(which is not free). Also Transcribe! will only read "standard
mode", not "long mode".

- Markers & tempo computation.
We now consider auto-subdivisions as beats for the purpose
of tempo computation.

- Text Block Edit dialog.
This dialog is now resizable and remembers its size, and shows
a colour sample.

- Text Zone
When you right-click (control-click on Mac) in the text zone
you now get a submenu to GoTo the text block of your choice.

- Linux: compatibility improvements.
Changes which will hopefully improve Linux compatibility with
various Linux configurations. Also see the readme file for info
about more diagnostic options and suggestions for fixing
problems which do occur.

- Rewind-on-pause
You can specify a rewind in tenths of a second, so that when
you pause playback the paused point jumps backwards.
Meaning that when you start playing again you will hear
the last bit again.

- Windows & Mac : continuous MIDI controllers
You can now use continuous MIDI controllers (e.g. a
volume pedal or a rotary knob) to control Transcribe!'s
speed or volume.

- Preference to "Default new transcription files to the
same folder as the sound file"

- Export Sound File
There is now a "repetition count" so you can export looping
tracks and fill up your hard disk really quickly.

- Help - new "Mouse Commands" reference page.

- Help - new "Tips for Speech Transcribers" page.

- Navigation Bar
On the View menu you can select whether you want to see
measure markers in the pop-up context menu.

- Accelerating cue/review.
Preference for choosing how fast you want Cue/Review to
go, and optionally to accelerate.

- Preference: "Allow tab navigation in keyboard commands
dialog" (Windows & Linux, not Mac).
This has been requested by visually impaired users, see
the Help.

- New commands to switch analog lock on/off
Accessible as keyboard shortcuts if you choose to configure them.

- Prettier main scroll bar, especially on Mac.

- many other minor bugfixes and improvements.
