old phone phreak articles from the days of analog phone switching 
would give you info as well, since people used to build little 
boxes to generate these tones and others. For example, the touch 
tones on your consumer phone were not the same as those used by 
long distance operators to place or redirect calls. One frequency, 
2600 HZ, was infamous and useful enough to become the name of the 
leading hacker magazine for years.
