OK, this is kind of a very newbish question,
where is the "Extended DELETE" key?
I tried the normal delete key right under the insert key, but that didn't
work... Is there a trick to it?

I will try the snap-shot next time, but now I just did what I said and
the volume says that it's changing, I can't hear it, but on other
speakers I will be able to hear it.
Now time to learn about nudging! (unless there is a plugin or something
that can be used to flatten the voice a quarter tone or so without making
the voice sound mechanical?)

you don't have to automate while in playback. Did you read about taking
a snapshot?
