[ddots-l] Re: Edirol FA66 recording problems

Hi,
I believe I have the sampling rate set correctly on the card as any other
setting is rejected by Sonar when I launch it, giving me the "driver
incompatibility or other application is using it" dialog. If you are familiar
with the FA66 then I have the frequency switch all the way to the left closest
to the midi ports when viewing it from the front (i.e., the input jacks and
knobs closest to me and the power, frequency and other switches away from me).

From within the Track properties dialog, I have 8 options to choose from in the
Output combo box:
Edirol FA66 Out 1
Edirol FA66 Out 2
Edirol FA66 Out 3
Master
Aux 2
Aux 3
Aux 4

I can only hear the crappy audio if either Master or Edirol FA66 Out 1 or any
of the Aux options is selected.

It doesn't make sense to me why Edirol FA66 Out 3 is there.

I'm also questioning some of the settings in the Options/ Audio dialog. For
example, Sonar insists on selecting the Sigmatel audio device that I have Jaws
using in the Driver Profiles page. Also my playback and recording timing
masters are both set to the Edirol FA66 Out 3.

Any other advice?

  Hi,

You should have the outputs set to something like "edirol fa66 line 12 mic in
left" or something along those lines. Also, do you have the sampling rate
switch on the card set to 44.1 khz?

    Hello,

When I record audio tracks with either a mic or electric guitar the audio
playback is horrible. It's very choppy with constant clicking, out of phase
with respect to the metronome and I only hear audio in one channel. When ai
monitor with headphones while recording it sounds reasonably crisp and I can
hear it in both ears.

I've tried increasing the I/O buffer from 128 to 256 and finally to 512 but
it makes no difference.

Indicative of possibly the same problem is that I have my input gain nearly
maxed out while I record but I still hear the clicking and single-channel
phenomena during playback even when I turn the gain way down during recording.

I did have some trouble getting the Edirol configured with Sonar using the
Wave Profiler. After about a dozen attempts it finally just started working
and not complaining about driver incompatibility or being used by another
program. So I'm wondering if someone can give me a checklist of Sonar 6 audio
settings, especially pertaining to the Edirol FA66? Thanks in advance.
