My first suspicion would be that it's a hardware problem.
To resolve that, you really need a good techie.
 
However, it might be worth looking at the Event Logs for
your system.  Are you familiar with this area, or have
someone who can help here?

Hello all, seemly whenever I work within sonar in
conjunction with any program, Windows Media, or just a text
document such as the CT tutorial document, my machine locks
up.  Even as I think about I don’t have to necessarily have
any other program open for the problem.  Unfortunately, the
problem is randomly happening and I can’t pinpoint any
specific time for the occurrence.  I can say that I’ve had
this machine for about a year and 7/8 months and have
problems of one variety or another since day one.  I recall
that when I first got it their was a problem with the
keyboard not working and I had to switch to a USB keyboard.
I’ve got connected to the unit, a midisport, Delta 1010
sound card, and a Mackey mixer.  I realize that anything
could be going to cause the problem but does any one have
any suggestions before I have to try to get this thing to a
repair shop?  Thanks
