Where do you obtain that free script?
Thanks,

Hmm, good question. Not sure really. For example, CT handles affects dialog boxes such as the Cakewalk FX EQ, a bit better than the free scripts do. Meaning that all of the buttons and sliders are fully scripted for. On the other hand, the guys who write the free scripts are improving boxes like this all of the time so, I guess it could be a matter of time until dialog boxes such as this have been totally scripted. Also, the free scripts, tend to encourage the user to use keystrokes that are already built into Sonar, rather than implementing new keystrokes that are a feature of CT. I personally don't think that's a bad thing at all as I personally feel that it's better for the user to learn the host application, rather than learning CT which, is a bolted on to Sonar. I have taken this approach as most of my clients are sighted. Also, I personally like to be able to have the option to work without applications such as CT. This has enabled me to get into using Sonar 5 early on as CT isn't available for that yet.

Having said all that, I am not knocking CT as there could be some people out there who would find exclusively using Sonar on it's own with free scripts, too much of a learning curve. CT comes with a ton of well written documentation which, if you don't have any working knowledge of the audio and MIDI environment, could be useful. Having said that, I haven't ever really need to or, used any of the tutorials that ship with CT as I find the Sonar help system, more than adequate for my needs.

On the other hand, CT does seem to make the Sonar environment a bit more robust. Meaning that, if you click on something E.G, such as opening a softsynthe then, CT will do exactly what it is supposed to. Also, pressing function key F2 in order to read and reset record and playback metres, is far less clunky than the free scripts alt control and the letter M.

my conclusion on this is that to go from Using CT to free scripts is probably less of a learning curve if you never used CT and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I am one such user who never did use CT with Cakewalk Pro Audio at all. I barely used Cakewalk Pro Audio at all and when I did, that was with free scripts that shipped with Jaws. I started using Sonar, long before any scripts were available, free or CT.

On the other hand, I find some of the keyboard shortcuts that have been implemented in the free scripts, a bit more intuitive in the track view. For example, control, shift, and the letter f, will jump you to the affects column, Control shift and N, for the name column, control shift and V, for the volume column and control shift and P for the pan column. I personally find that way easier than having to try and remember how many times I need to press a keystroke in CT in order to jump to say, column 10 in the track view.

Having used both, Phil what can't you do with the free scripts that you can do easier with CT?
And vice versa.

CT 4 doesn't work with Sonar 5. You will ether need to wait for CT for Sonar 5 to come out or, use the free Jaws scripts that are available. Note: Dancing Dots don't support the free scripts. Having said that, they do work quite well.

Greetings from Down Under....:)

Is anyone using CT4 with Sonar 5?

CT4 and Sonar 4.03 are very happy together, just having a little trouble when I start getting a lot of trax (around 30 or so) with plugs in etc etc... I feel that JAWS loses focus quite a lot and cannot find name of trax or even locate trax themselves.

I did read somewhere to locate a track by name , but could not find it on reread of CT Tutorial, perhaps someone could point me in the correct direction?....:)

I do not wish to compromise my system if I install Sonar 5.

With much thanx....

David

(Still really really enjOying CT) ....:)
