you don't need to set the output to none. you just turn down the track volume to inf. then toggle the send to pre fader . this means that the send level will be independent from the track's volume control.

is it a common practice to set a tracks output column to "none" and its send to 0.0 db if all you want to hear is the signal with the effect on the buss fully applied to the signal (at whatever level the effect is set at on the buss of course). Where I get a little confused is at the point where the track, in addition to sending to the buss, also has its output field set to "master". In that case, I'm wondering how much of the buss processed signal is present in the master output in relation to the track signal (that was routed directly to master). I would think it would be 50% of buss signal, and 50% of track output signal. And, more to the point, I wonder what would be the aggrigate signal level at master output.If it is "split" at the track send, and then recombined at the master output, wouldn't the signal level be effectively doubled? These are my questions--I guess my limited understanding of signal flow is at the heart of my problem here.
