these are Solid State Drives, known as SSDs.  the advantage appears to be that, 
because they don't have moving platters on which the data is stored, the drives 
don't deteriorate as quickly from repeated reads and writes.  Bryan could 
explain better.  they are more expensive.  However, when you're preserving 
irreplaceable data, what's a little money?
