field sharing their knowledge about SPED as it pertains to children with
visual impairments (including deafblindness).

cares about making sure that blind children receive the best education
possible?

The American Council of the Blind Special Education Task Force and Advocacy
Committee are proud to present a free, totally accessible webinar designed
with you in mind.

This event brings presentations from a nationally recognized panel whose
expertise covers the spectrum of the important and diverse components of
the education of children who are blind and visually impaired.

The webinar program:

Overview of special education requirements and regulations, e.g.,
procedural and substantive educational rights.

Presenter: Mark Richert, Director of Public Policy, American Foundation for
the Blind

Getting to know the parent's baseline attitudes and knowledge.

Presenter: Lori Scharff, Licensed Master Social Worker and president of the
American Council of the Blind of New York

Distinguishing a functional visual assessment and a learning media
assessment.

Presenter: Kim Avila, Ph.D. candidate in Education and Acting Coordinator
of the Virginia Consortium for Teacher Preparation in Vision Impairment at
George Mason University

Defining reasonable expectations regarding the child's education, what
services to expect.

Presenter: Sharon Sacks, Superintendent, California School for the Blind

Integration of services to cover the entirety of the needs of the child
with multiple disabilities.

Presenter:  Clara Berg, Family Specialist for the New York State
Collaborative Deafblind Technical Assistance Project

When to request and when to demand, and how to do both. Negotiating
obstacles.

Presenter: Robert Borrelle, Attorney from DREDF

Successfully advocating with a TVI on behalf of the child.

Presenter: Kim Avila

At the conclusion of the formal portion of the webinar, there will be an
opportunity to address questions to the panelists.

Although the webinar is free of charge, it is necessary to pre-register so
that all who wish to attend may be accommodated.

Please include your name, phone number and email address in the body of the
email. The registration deadline is March 21. Within a week or so before
the event date, you will receive an e-mail with the necessary information
to access the webinar platform from the webinar technical moderator, Brian
Charlson, Director of Technology at the Carroll Center for the Blind.
