I would say probably branching the sources into a 1.5 and a 1.4 branch 
would be a better idea, in my opinion. Eventually, say after a few (6?) 
months, you could discard the 1.4 branch.

Personally, I am okay with the 1.4 not being maintained as my sources are 
already in java 1.5 and it doesn't really matter to me. I am just 
thinking about the general population.
