The construction project contractors haven't been appointed as yet, but advice
provided at the meeting today says the Underpass near Degraves Street is
unlikely to close. Most of the works will happen from Port Phillip Arcade to
Swanston Street. The Elizabeth Street crossing should not be affected.
Accessible access for people with mobility impairments should be able to access
Flinders Street Station via Swanston Street, bear in mind there may be minor
detours but the intention is that this will be the most accessible access path
to and from Flinders Street Station.
For the majority of the project works will be a noisy working environment.
Please be aware of trucks coming and going. The contractors should have
traffic management plan with Stop and Go people holding signs to assist the
movement of trucks, traffic, pedestrians and people with disabilities.
There will be parts of Swanston Street closed or partially closed at various
times and locations for months at a time. The will be major works as Claire
indicated at City Square as well and various closures if that area and closures
of Swanston Street.

Port Phillip Arcade and all the shops around the corner in Swanston St will
be gone before early 2018.
The new Metro tunnel will run from Kensington to South Yarra with new
stations at Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain.
It will allow for longer trains to carry more passengers and ease congestion
in the loop.
Victoria is currently building 65 new High-Capacity Metro Trains (HCMTs) for
the Cranbourne-Pakenham line and longer platforms will be built at 18
stations on that line.
CBD North will be near Franklin and A’Beckett Streets and those streets will
close between Swanston Street and Victoria Street.
Construction crews will dig down 11 storeys below the ground to construct the
new CBD North Station below Swanston Street.
The new station will be linked directly to Melbourne Central Station,
providing a seamless interchange between the new Metro Tunnel, the City Loop
and the rest of the network.
