[softwarelist] Re: pdf-import

Hi,

'No suitable file filter found' is the message I get
when I try to import a pdf-file in Ovation for
Windows, no matter if I use Distiller or Ghostscript.

Presumably you have installed the PDF filter?

See:

http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/DavidPilling/Filters/transpdf.html

If it complains there is no filter then it means the pdf filter is not installed, rather than there being some sort of problem with how the filter is interacting with the PDF rendering system.

There's no magic in computers, have a look at the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DavidPilling\Filters

You also need the EPS rendering applet to be active.

Any chance the 'ole'-function will be part of Ovation?

That is a reasonable request. I would have liked to add OLE long ago. I suspect it may be one of those things which turns out to not be as good as you imagine - think about how direct PS rendering is going to interact with it.

I'd noticed that some Windows DTP programs allow PDF files to be imported as editable objects. At first sight this looks hugely complicated to do. However consider that !PDF for RISC OS allows PDF to Draw file conversion, and that allowing Draw file to Ovation Pro objects would be very simple.
