Another annoyance I found....

A program had saved some data somewhere. When opening the file
viewer in the program is showed it to be in "Program Files\something.."
But looking in the Program Files folder showed no sign of the
data I wanted.

It turns out that to stop rogue programs messing with Program Files
there is a virtual file system that sits on top of it. If you
look in 

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)

You will find stuff that would normally have been in Program Files.
