[softwarelist] Whither David Pilling...

Hi,

I've been neglecting you over recent weeks because of serious illness in my family.

At best, it will be many weeks before things get back to normal.

Today Windows XP did a chkdsk when I turned on this computer. As a result all my email has vanished. So if you've not had a reply please repost.

Over this period I've tried to reply to anything that could be dealt with quickly. At the moment I don't have the time to enter into prolonged discussions.

After what I've seen recently I would like to say something that will stop anyone else suffering the same fate.

So if you get a bad pain in the top of your leg, and your GP rushes to say "sciatica due to your spine being out of alignment, take pain killers and stay active, it will go better on its own in time", and the pain keeps getting worse, seek a second opinion, or pay for a CT scan, do not wait for it to go better.

If you Google you'll find reams of stuff on the common causes of sciatica (slipped discs and suchlike), however some of the other causes which usually get only a one word mention e.g. "infection" turn out to be very serious.

It also came as a surprise to us that an X-ray didn't show up the real problem.

I don't want to turn this into a thread. So if we can leave it here...
