Have you checked *all* variables or just the TransFSI ones? What, for
instance, happens to the FFG* variables?

What does TransLoader$Tail contain after an unsuccessful attempt to
drop in a PNG file?

Well, not surprisingly, the difference is that in the first case, the
program is run when you boot up and in the second, it is run when you
double-click on it. This can make a big difference if some other
program changes something that TransFSI sets up.

By the way: There is no point in *running* TransFSI during boot-up.
Just "looking at" it is enough.
