Soooh. he's set up his machine to reply with the above message to all
incoming email. The thing is, will it send out the reply when it sees
the message it sent appear back from the list. If so, we're sitting on
the brink of infinity.
He's not kidding when he says "the inconvenience that this will cause
you" e.g. finding his house and chainsawing the telegraph pole outside
it.
Any suggestions before the mail list becomes incredibly busy?

Ah, got it, I can go unsub him... <sigh> simple solutions are no fun.
