Presumably you're using Ovation Pro (all hail Mr. D. Pilling!!)

Is the box you're creating big enough for the text you're trying to
enter?
Make it big, then reduce the text box till it's as small as possible
without giving you the overflow arrow.

You can give it a transparent background and change the colour of the
number to something that shows up clearly as the standard black often
dowes not show well.

I've just done what you want with no problems.
