Code hex 20 (decimal 32) is a space character. That is not a blank. A space will advance the position in the text horizontally, so a space is something rather than nothing.

I'm not saying it is the source of any of your problem characters. I was just pointing out that there are empty code positions in RISC OS and they have to be mapped to something which does not print.
