OK: the (zip) was bracketed. Can't create a Sparc encryped file either.
I created new/arc, CTRL drag to SparkFS. Window opens. DES. Password.
Return. Nothing happens! Drag in a file, it is not encrypted.
No it does work, however the way it works has been a constant source of
confusion. You set a password for an archive file, anything that is then
added is encrypted and anything extracted is decrypted. You only see
something if you turn off the password and attempt to extract something
which had previously been added with a password set - at that point
SparkFS will complain about corruption.
People have often assumed that setting a password would encrypt the
entire archive contents immediately, or that there was a flag somewhere
that says "this file is encrypted". It doesn't work that way.
Garble is easily broken - about 5 seconds without using any special
software. These days there are things like PGP available which you can
apply to the whole archive.
It would be _very_ nice if archives opened via share worked properly, but
I think that's a filer thing, not anything you can do about it in SparkFS?
I'm not sure about what the specific problem is. It is not a filer
problem because everything is going on a file system level. Some network
file systems did have problems with archives (actually image files),
perhaps others work. You might get around the problem by turning off
image file system support in SparkFS. But anyway the problem is out of
my domain.
