Yes I reproduce the facts in the above kb article in the ReadMe in the IFilter zip file. For things like script files (.csc) using the ability to extend the extensions searched is probably a good idea.

For .dpd files, I'd be interested to hear which is best. The dedicated filter excludes non-text material (font names, junk that looks like text etc.), so one might guess it is superior.

Another angle is the implications for things like Google desktop search, that can use the IFilter I have written. I don't recall if Google looked inside all file types.
