As suggested by someone else, any icon in My Network Places apart from
the "Add" and "Entire Network" are shortcuts. Also you may have "mapped"
network drives. I'm not sure if these get included in the scan, but
they will potentially be in the list of stuff looked at by the filer
window.

Disabling the network is likely to make the problem worse. As Windows
will be trying to talk to a dead network
