A question for Acrobat users ...
Having created a series of PDF files from OPW-generated PostScript, just
out of interest I thought I would see if I could edit one of the PDF
files. When I try to do this in Acrobat (v4 and v8), I get a pop-up
message which says: "Warning: You cannot edit text in this font"
(Acrobat 4 for Windows) or "All or part of the selection has no
available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently
selected font." (Acrobat 8 for Mac)
The original OPW documents were created mainly in TimesNewRoman. The
PostScript was generated in WinXP, and the PDF in Acrobat8 on a Mac
using the Distiller default settings for Press quality (including embed
all fonts).
The warning message suggests that the Font (TimesNewRoman) is not
available on my system ... but it is, both in WinXP and MacOS
Clearly, there is something one has to do to get an editable PDF, which
I failed to do. Can anyone suggest what it is?
Or could it conceivably have something to do with the original
PostScript? OPW was set to Direct PostScript.
FWIW, I can edit the text in the PDF of the OPW user manual (not saving
my edits, of course).
Also ... a piece of TimesNewRoman text created in MSWord (Mac) and
printed to Acrobat Distiller with the same PDF settings IS editable.
