In my most recent article in Archive I wrote that files in Ovation and
Ovation Pro format were not interchangeable. By this, what I mean is
that files created in Ovation Pro can not be loaded into Ovation and
that files created in Ovation can not be loaded into Ovation Pro.
Ovation cannot load Ovation Pro files.
Ovation Pro can load Ovation files - the Ovation1 applet needs to be
installed.
This is logical, Ovation Pro was the successor to Ovation and we did not
want to abandon Ovation users and their documents.
Obviously today Ovation and Ovation Pro have different owners, but
you've got to be realistic about the situation. Ovation is not going to
be developed any further. In 1991 Beebug struggled to sell Ovation
(mainly because the user interface looked so bad). In fact Beebug gave
away Ovation with computers back then and people would not use it.
Today there are probably 5 copies of Impression available for every RISC
OS user.
