ah, yes, that makes sense.  or Alan Adam's suggestion of copying 
captions from temp location to a separate document.  or the second 
view.  why didnt i thnk of that?  (will see if it's any quicker.)

yes, via clipboard.  these captions are each just a line of text, not 
a frame.
