Yes copy and paste all the story via the clipboard, that's a good idea.
I admit I'm not surprised that some text stories don't work as DDL - probably ones with embedded graphics. 


that seems promising.  text and embedded pix have appeared in the new
document.  until i scroll to the end of the text and find it has
stopped short.  just short of a 450K JPeg, as it happens -- is that
relevant?
That is surprising. I've no thoughts that stories won't copy via the clipboard. 

If you've got an example of this I'd be interested to see it.
Of course by now it would be easier to change the size of the master pages, that's the way this problem was first presented.
