i tried this tack:  saved the whole document as DDL.  dropped that 
onto iconbar and got a new document that looks like old one, except 
(we hope) that certain tangles might be tidied.   then, from new 
document, saved one of the big chapters as DDL.  dropped that into a 
waiting blank chapter in my formatted-as-Demy document.  result:
"Unknown object at 235" -- what's that mean?


i'll now 'vestigate editing the master page within the DDL, as you 
suggest might be possible.  will i simply need to delete the 
masterpage info, or will i need to put the new masterpage info in its 
place?
