No. The applet does not want that style, you as User want it, to be 
able to see where your tagged words are.

No. IdxPro automatically eliminates spaces at the beginning and at the 
end of the selected text. (When you click on "Add" in the IdxPro 
window the selected text is bookmarked and added to the program. Very 
easy.)

Assuming you are searching a style (not an effect) how about giving 
that style a specific colour or bigger letter etc. Then it becomes 
clearly visible.

Realize that the Index is not "live". The generated index is totally 
dependent of the layout at the time of creation. Any change in layout 
obliges you to recreate the index.

A simple index is not that time consuming. It is only the 1st few 
entries that take time, till you understand how it works. Then it 
becomes routine (assuming a simple index). Try it with just 5 entries, 
then you'll understand better.
