i find i can't trust the chapter and page numbers displayed in the
standard Info Palette -- and in the applet called Page Palette, which
i also have running.
One of those funny things, done with the best of intentions,
painstakingly programmed, logically perfect, this has been a long
running irritation for users. The page/chapter numbers are correct but
they relate to the area on view, not to the page with the selected
object in.
At least the delete chapter window tells you which chapter it is going
to delete.
You can always have a window that only part of one page will fit in.
Raises the question, should this have been changed, do good programs
come from listening to users.
someone suggested that i should save out a DDL file and then import
that to a new document, in case various styles and stuff have got
This can be a good idea. However it only makes sense to use the "save
whole document as DDL" option.
The only other option available is saving stories as DDL, which has its
role but this isn't it - you'd have to start recreating frames and
whatever.
The idea of DDL was that it saved all the document structure, frames
etc. - so a big step forward over Impression DDF, but that it did not
save display information - you'll lose things like print formats, view
scales and anything applets have embedded in documents.
If I was starting over, I'd do DDL as XML and I'd make it the only
option for documents - back in 1992 machines were too slow - and I'd
save everything.
