[softwarelist] OPro chapter numbers and contents

i'm still stewing this 300-page book, as a newbie OPro user.
i find i can't trust the chapter and page numbers displayed in the
standard Info Palette -- and in the applet called Page Palette, which
i also have running.
i temporarily have chapter number showing alongside page number in
the footers of each page, and sometimes the figure in these palettes
differs by 1 from that showing in the footer. this is particulary
true of the chapter number. even when i explicitly select something
on the page.
which is especially disconcerting when i want to delete a chapter,
and the "Are you sure?" box talks about a chapter number different
from the one i think i'm in.
also, i'm trying to use the Contents applet (Roger Noble, v2.23, 2003)
to give me a list of the captions used for illustrations in the book.
why does it insist in starting at page 70, ignoring the captions on
previous pages?
someone suggested that i should save out a DDL file and then import
that to a new document, in case various styles and stuff have got
themselves into a twist. it might help with the repeated 90-second
update phenomenon i complained about earlier, he said.
does anyone concur?
(i know this operation would lose Bookmarks, but i haven't defined
any yet, so that's not a problem.)
and if i do this, will i need to do each of the 12 chapters
separately? it would actually be useful if in the new document i can
define one master page that would be replicated for all chapters.
